Students come first. Always.
All students deserve equitable access to:
High Quality Education
A high-quality, world class education means that students are set up to be successful for college and career after high school. This means continuing to ensure that honors, AP, accelerated and enrichment classes are offered. It also means making sure that all students are meeting grade-level benchmarks. Students that are not meeting standards need multiple opportunities and interventions so they can also be successful. As a school board member, I will support policies that maintain high graduation standards and programs that ensure ALL students have access to an education that meets those standards.
Safe Spaces
Students must feel safe in their schools in order to learn. I will work to support keeping our schools a safe place for all students, staff, teachers, parents and community members. With the prevalence of gun violence in our country, this is an issue that must be addressed. Guns and other threats to safety have no place in our schools.
Safe spaces also includes making sure that all students from all backgrounds are welcomed into our schools. SLP boasts a large diversity of students despite if relatively small population. As a board member I will support policies that make SLP schools spaces that are inclusive to the diverse students we serve.
Supports for Students, Teachers, and Families
All students deserve continuous access to highly qualified teachers, counselors, social workers, nurses, media specialists and student support assistants.
Teachers are our front-line in education. They know their craft, their know their students, and they know what they need to help their students be successful. Teacher input should be sought after and used to inform any decision that impacts student academic learning.
Involved families correlate and contribute to successful students. Families in all forms and versions should be welcomed into our school spaces. Opportunities, encouragement and support for families should be an extension of the school.
As a school board member, I will support policies that support students, teachers and families in guiding all students to be successful.
What "experience" does she have?
I have never held public office of any sort before. I don't think this is a negative - I still have that glint of idealism left in me to want to even run for a public office. It does mean I will have a high learning curve. I am a hard worker, dedicated, and passionate about public education. Students come first. Always. This motto will guide all my work as a school board member.
