MEET LAURA
Student-centered leadership
Hello St. Louis Park!
My name is Laura McClendon and I am excited to be running as a candidate for SLP School Board. I would love to serve the community and school district that set me up for success.
I have been a long time resident of St. Louis Park (30 years, 10 of which have been as a homeowner). I am proud to call SLP my home and have the privilege to live in such an amazing community.
SLP Schools played a major role in setting me up for success; from Cedar Manor, to the Jr. High and then the High School, I was able to take advantage of the world-class education offered. I earned multiple scholarships and was able to attend college - the first in my immediate family. I earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of MN-Morris in 2003, and went on to earn my graduate degree, Master of Chemical and Life Sciences from the University of MD- College Park in 2010.
This fall, I will begin my 17th year of teaching. I work as a science teacher at Washington Technology Magnet School, part of the St. Paul Public Schools. Teaching is a passion of mine and I look forward to working with a new group of 6th grade middle school scholars!
I am a strong proponent of public education; every student should have access to a high-quality education and being a school board member would allow me to ensure that all students in SLP have access to that excellent education.
